Applications for the 2013 CERN summer programme for students from Non-Member States are now open via the page:
Please draw the attention of your students to this opportunity to participate in forefront research at CERN, attend lectures by leading physicists and join the world-wide community of particle physicists for 8 weeks next (Northern) summer.
The application deadline is 31 January 2013, and further particulars may be found on the above web page.
The CERN Summer Student Program offers undergraduate students of physics, computing and engineering a unique opportunity to join in the day-to-day work of research teams participating in experiments at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland. Beyond the outstanding first-class scientific value of their stay, the selected students will find working in a multidisciplinary and multicultural environment an extremely enriching personal experience. It is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make valuable and long lasting contacts with other students and scientists from all over the World.
In addition to the work in the experimental teams, Summer Students attend a series of lectures (2013 timetable will be published later on) specially prepared for them. Several scientists from around the world share their knowledge about a wide range of topics in the fields of theoretical and experimental particle physics and computing. Visits to the accelerators and experimental areas are also part of the Program, as well as discussion sessions, workshops and a poster session. Attendance requires a presence of 8 weeks on site and the possible dates of stay are the following:
17 June to 9 August
24 June to 16 August
1 July to 23 August
8 July to 30 August - in exceptional circumstances only
Information on the organised activities can be found on the Summer Student Info Page.
The deadline for this application is fixed on 31 January 2013 (00:00 CET !)
A limited number of studentships are available during the European summer period only. CERN financial support may also be offered to students who are nationals of countries that are not Member States of CERN.
In addition to the work in the experimental and engineering teams, the selected students are required to attend a series of lectures. Scientists from around the world share their knowledge about a wide range of topics in the fields of theoretical and experimental particle physics and computing. Students are also required to complete a report at the end of their studentship.
You are NOT a national of a CERN Member State.
You are a university-level undergraduate (at least third year students) or at the start of post-graduate studies.
You will remain registered as a student during your stay at CERN. If you expect to graduate in the European summer 2013, you are also eligible to apply.
You have not worked at CERN before (e.g. as a User)
You have a good knowledge of English; knowledge of French would be an advantage.
References: Please note that you should upload TWO reference letters from your professors in order to be considered for selection. Once your application has been submitted, you will receive an acknowledgment of receipt which contains a link. You must forward this link to your two referees so that they can upload their recommendation letter.
