Beasiswa S3 Fisika, Chalmers University, Swedia, Dalam Proyek “Integrated Terahertz (1012 Hz) Sources”
Oleh : Jan Stake
Jumat, 27 Maret 2009 (09:41 WIB) dari IP 114.58.203.125
Reference number 2009/23 Application deadline 2009-03-31
The Physical Electronics Laboratory, Department of Microtechnology and Nanoscience, has a PhD student / Post.Doc. position open for research on integrated terahertz (1012 Hz) sources.
Our research at the Physical Electronics Laboratory is focused on new materials, devices and sub-systems for applications in the frequency range 100 GHz – 10 THz or the corresponding wavelength range 30 µm – 3 mm. This is an emerging part of the electromagnetic spectrum where optical and microwave techniques meet. We fabricate novel devices and evaluate these in various circuit demonstrators. Examples of those are low noise terahertz mixers and terahertz generators. Our research finds applications in receivers and transmitters for future radar sensors, THz-imaging systems, radio astronomy and remote sensing, and future wireless communication systems.
Job description
Your research will be to investigate novel high-speed compound semiconductor devices for high power terahertz signal generation and explore new ways to integrated passive and active components at terahertz frequencies. This work will include advanced device fabrication in the Nanofabrication laboratory at MC2, circuit design and device characterisation at terahertz frequencies.
Qualifications
We believe you are interested in applied science, creative and curious in a future career as a researcher. You find problem solving stimulating and like challenges. You are driven by curiosity, goal-oriented, and enjoy working in a team. You hold a Master of Science degree in Applied Physics or Electrical Engineering (or an equivalent degree) awarded by an internationally recognised university-level institution. Successful candidates should have experience and/or a strong interest in (some of) the following areas: semiconductor device physics, nanofabrication techniques, electro-magnetic theory, optics and microwave engineering. We also believe you have good communication skills, good analytical and experimental skills and good ability to work independently towards the goals expressed in the project plans.
You will be employed in the Terahertz Technology Group, MC2, at Chalmers, and will receive a salary according to current salary agreements. The post.doc. position is initially for one year, with a possible one-year extension. The PhD position is limited to at most five years. Usually, a PhD student will spend about 80 percent of his or her time on graduate studies, and about 20 percent on teaching.
Application procedure
The application shall be written in English and include the following items:
1. An application of a maximum of one A4 page containing your specific qualifications for the position 2. Curriculum Vitae including list of publications 3. Two reference persons who can be contacted by Chalmers (describe association with them and give their contact addresses) 4. Attested copies of education certificates, including grade reports and other documents
The application shall be sent electronically.
The documents according to items 1-4 above shall be attached as two pdf-files.
One should contain items 1-3 in the listing of material to be included in the application The other should contain item 4 in the listing of material, and any other appendices.
The files may be compressed (zipped).
If any material is not available electronically or cannot be transferred to pdf format, the material can be sent as a hard copy to Registrar. The applicants name and the reference number (2009/23) must be written on the first page of the application.
